As with everything else, Christmas may look a little different this year due to the pandemic. No crowds for the Christmas tree lighting ceremonies that usually take place this time of year, no Christmas parades, and paying Santa Claus a visit requires a mask.
Fortunately, there are still plenty of activities that you can do to get in the holiday spirit while staying safe. While these may be things you can do any year, I think it's a nice reminder that not everything has to be different for Christmas this year.
Here are some Christmas activities you can safely do this holiday season. Note that some may overlap as you can do multiple at once!
Have a Christmas Movie Marathon
Put on some comfy pjs, grab some hot chocolate, some Christmas treats, and a blanket and settle in for a Christmas movie marathon! I've created a checklist (above) of a bunch of holiday classics and favorites to watch. If you want to, you can be like Santa and check it twice (ha!). You could also add your own favorites that aren't listed on here.
Drive Around Looking at Christmas Lights
There may not be the typical, crowd-drawing opportunities to look at lights this year, but you can still go for a drive to look at light displays in your area! This is totally safe as you never have to leave your vehicle. Not sure where to go? I found this website called Christmas Lightfinder that allows you to search for lights in and around your zip code.
So make some hot chocolate in a travel mug, find your favorite Christmas music to listen to, and go enjoy the lights.
Listen to/Sing Along to Christmas Music
Speaking of Christmas music, you can spend some time listening to or singing along with your favorite Christmas songs from the comfort of your home. If you don't own any Christmas albums, Spotify has a wide selection of holiday playlists to meet everyone's taste in music.
Wear Ugly Christmas Sweaters or Christmas Pajamas
One of the many highlights of Christmas is getting to wear fun pajamas or wear an ugly sweater on purpose. Since its safer not to leave your house anyway, why not dress in your favorite ugly Christmas sweater or your coziest and cutest Christmas pajamas?
If you don't have any Christmas pjs yet, here's a few good places to look:
Etsy: Etsy has tons of options from small businesses and a lot of them even allow for personalization of the pjs.
Side note: My shop also has some cute Christmas shirts that are super comfy and can be worn as pjs shirts if one wishes.
Target: Target has a great selection of pjs for women, men, and children and they're decently priced too!
Old Navy: I love looking at Old Navy's Jingle Jammies and they always come out with different styles every year! There's a lot of cute stuff and even some good puns thrown in there as well.
Wanting to go for the ugly Christmas sweater option?
Decorate Your Home
Really take the time to decorate your house this year, especially since you're likely spending more time in it than you usually do. Maybe decorate even more than you usually do. You can add decor to a room you typically don't decorate most years for example.
